When the terrorists held hostage and then killed 186 young people in Beslan, Russia, German stepped in to give comfort, counsel and spiritual direction to the grieving city. German, the only trained youth leader in the area, had recently graduated from our two-year Perspectiva School where youth leaders learn and apply Jesus-Focused Youth Ministry. Without that training he would not have had what he needed to handle this very difficult situation. Because of his training many people in that city came to know Jesus.

The Need:

Twenty-three million young people live across eleven time zones in Russia with another thirty million in the other former Soviet Union countries.

The Leaders:

Sergey Pankov, Yuri Pozhidaev and Lance Corley lead a team of 11 trainers who on some level have trained over 3000 youth leaders across Russia. Of those 150 have attended our Perspectiva School and 24 have become Eagle Leaders. They mentor 120 other youth leaders.

The Ministry:

Reach Out began work in Russia in 1993. Significant on-going training in Jesus-Focused Youth Ministry began in 1999.

Through the Perspectiva School we mentor youth leaders from throughout Russia. Students attend this ten-day training two times a year for two years. After each ten-day training session students return to their church to implement the training. Our team makes an on-site visit to the churches, offering counsel on how to better apply Jesus-Focused Youth Ministry. Our team trains twenty students a year through Perspectiva. The students who graduate become the Eagle Leader trainers in various regions of Russia.

Our Russia team has also committed 10% of their time to equip youth leaders in Kazakhstan and Tatarstan.
